Matthew E. Laughlin
Matt is a senior shareholder of the Davis Brown Law Firm practicing in both the Litigation and Business Divisions. He has been working in default servicing for almost 20 years. Matt’s practice also encompasses national, regional, and local financial institutions in real estate litigation and commercial litigation. Matt has been actively involved in the firm management, including serving on the board of directors and on numerous committees throughout his tenure.
Matt’s primary real estate practice area is cradle to grave default servicing. Matt represents major financial institutions in their real estate needs. He handles hundreds of residential foreclosures each year in addition to complex commercial foreclosures. He has received judgments on behalf of clients of up to $45 million.
Matt assists clients with general real estate transactions including purchases, closings, easements agreements, and compliance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Truth in Lending Act.
He is also a seasoned real estate litigator. Matt has successfully represented both plaintiffs and defendants in and out of court and has served as counsel to businesses facing real estate litigation. He has worked on landlord/tenant disputes, flood and condemnation litigation, mechanics liens and construction law, and other general real estate litigation. Matt also handles debtor/creditor cases, general commercial law and commercial litigation and appeals.
