William P. Kelly
SUMMARY
In August 2011, Bill Kelly returned from active duty with the Iowa
Army National Guard as the Brigade Judge Advocate for the 2/34 IBCT.
While serving in Afghanistan as part of Task Force Red Bulls, he was
awarded the Bronze Star. Bill is now back full-time focusing on his litigation and mediation practice.
Bill handles cases involving litigation, mediation, personal injury,
insurance defense, worker's compensation, divorce actions, adoptions,
modification of custody and/or support actions, name change petitions
and military law. He is a certified mediator with the Polk County Bar
Association.
REPRESENTATIVE ENGAGEMENTS
Recent representative matters include successful defense of a banking
client in consumer credit code violation case; continuing defense of
mortgage servicing corporations; defense of banking client in
arbitration concerning Iowa Consumer Credit Code; an interpleader action
in Federal Court over insurance proceeds; the negotiation of
pre-nuptial, post-nuptial, separation, child custody, alimony and
equitable division of property agreements, as well as litigation in
these areas where settlements are not possible.

Bill authored a law review article entitled "Scope of Advertising Injury Under Iowa Law in Commercial General Liability Policies," 48 Drake L. Rev. 625 (2000).
OF NOTE
Bill is a major in the Iowa National Guard. He serves as the Brigade Judge Advocate with the 2/34 IBCT in Boone, IA. Kelly, a member of the Judge Advocate General Corps, has been active in the National Guard since February 21, 1995.
Bill is active within the Iowa State Bar Association, where he serves on the Military Affairs Committee.
Academics
Bill was Managing Editor of the Drake Law Review 1998-99. He is a 1990 graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where he received a B.A. in Political Science. At Brown he played for the varsity baseball and football teams, and was President of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.
