
Iowa occupies a unique place in the telecommunications industry, having more phone companies (145) than any other state. Davis, Brown, Koehn, Shors & Roberts, P.C. has been involved in the Iowa telecommunications industry since state-wide regulation of public utilities began in the 1960s. The firm filed the second rate case before the Iowa State Commerce Commission (now the Iowa State Utilities Board) and has practiced before the board regularly since then. The firm is general counsel to the Iowa Telecommunications Association. The department also represents many utilities including telecommunications, energy, cable television and wireless communications such as satellite, cellular, PCS, and paging. Davis, Brown, Koehn, Shors & Roberts, P.C. represents clients in state and federal regulatory affairs, including rate-making, tariffs, declaratory rulings, certificates, rule-making and licensing, as well as in mergers and acquisitions, incorporations, joint ventures and partnerships, and labor and employment issues.
