Tara Hall completes project for local women's shelter Beacon of Life - May 7, 2015

Over the past nine months, Davis Brown shareholder Tara Hall has taken part in a transformative leadership development program, the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute. Along with a select group of 49 others, Tara has learned more about Des Moines, the city’s diversity, opportunities, and challenges all while developing leadership skills.

As part of the program, smaller groups of participants develop their leadership capabilities by way of hands-on learning through a community development project.  Tara participated in the Room for Giving, Room for Living campaign for local women’s shelter, Beacon of Life. She engaged her Davis Brown colleagues in the process as well; the Davis Brown March Charity Jeans Day donations benefited the project.

With great leadership and hard work on the part of the 11 committee members, enough money and in-kind donations were raised to renovate the eight bathrooms in the shelter, bringing new life to the facility and making it more comfortable for the women living there. When asked what the partnership means to Beacon, case manager Julie Bardin Hewitt responded, “Everything!”  Team #everything was created based on her statement.

Beacon of Life hosted a ribbon cutting on Wednesday May 6, to unveil the newly completed bathrooms.  Guests were able to tour the bathrooms and the shelter and socialize at neighboring Café di Scala.
