Davis Brown senior shareholder Sharon Malheiro and the Planned Parenthood legal team received good news Friday morning when the Iowa Supreme Court struck down an earlier district court ruling impacting Planned Parenthood of the Heartland.
The Supreme Court ruled that the regulations imposed by the Iowa Board of Medicine on the telemedicine program used by Planned Parenthood were unconstitutional their violation of women’s rights.
The case, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, Inc and Jill Meadows v. Iowa Board of Medicine, was argued by Planned Parenthood’s national counsel. Sharon’s work on the case involved filing the initial lawsuit, and drafting the legal arguments and briefs. They also secured the stay maintaining the status quo while the case was before the Iowa Supreme Court. With this decision, Planned Parenthood clinics around the state can continue to use the telemedicine system to serve patients.
