Attorneys Leading the Way

Jo Ellen Whitney and Kelsey Crosse Attend Employers' Counsel Network Conference - May 11, 2017

Labor and Employment Department Chair, Jo Ellen Whitney, and Board of Directors Associate Representative, Kelsey K. Crosse, recently attended the Employers’ Counsel Network (ECN) Editor Conference.

The annual conference brings employment attorneys together from the United States and Canada to network and learn from each other.

“You really get a sense of the regulatory environment on a national level and how rapidly it’s changing,” Jo Ellen said. “It’s also a good opportunity to learn about national employment issues and trends and how other states are handling those issues, especially those that haven’t emerged in Iowa yet.”

Davis Brown is focused on helping employer clients avoid costly and time-consuming litigation. The ECN Conference facilitates that principle by covering topics and trends affecting employers.

“It helped me think about how to foster a different mindset for my employer clients,” Kelsey said, “Retaliation and whistleblower claims have been increasing over the years.  We learned ways to help our clients re-structure their policies and approach to these types of claims to minimize their exposure.”

In addition to networking and learning about employment trends, Jo Ellen also participated on an attorney panel focusing on leadership and law firm succession planning.
