Sharon Malheiro Featured in The Advocate as an LGBT Hero - May 15, 2017

In the article, “50 States, 50 Heroes,” The Advocate magazine includes Davis Brown attorney, Sharon Malheiro as the hero of LGBT Iowans.

In the article, Sharon is recognized for her role in the founding of One Iowa, the state’s largest LGBTQ advocacy organization, in 2005.  The current Executive Director of the organization, Daniel Hoffman-Zinnel writes in his recommendation that with Sharon’s contacts and influence across the U.S., she was able to attract attention and resources to the fight for marriage equality in the state, leading to Iowa legalizing same-sex marriage in 2009, just the third state in the nation to do so.

Sharon is recognized as a leader at Davis Brown as well. She served as the firm’s president from 2010-2012. During her tenure, the firm was named the number one mid-sized workplace in the state in recognition of the firm’s commitment to an excellent work environment, and support of the work/life balance of employees.

Sharon has been recognized by numerous organizations for her role in fighting for justice in the state of Iowa, most recently, she received the Distinguished Service Award from the Eighth Circuit Bar Association. She has also received the Cristine Wilson Medal of Equality of Justice from the Iowa Commission on the Status of Women in 2013, the Business Record Woman of Influence Award in 2010, and the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute Distinguished Civic Leadership Award in 2010, among others.
