Debra Rectenbaugh Pettit
Debra is a trial attorney, serving clients in the effective defense and resolution of legal claims and disputes in state and federal courts. Her practice is focused on the areas of design professional liability, construction law and litigation, commercial litigation, will contest litigation and insurance defense. She currently serves as the Chair of the firm's Construction Law Department for the Litigation Division.
In the area of construction law, Debra handles commercial construction contract development and review, commercial construction litigation, arbitration, and appeals. Examples of representative clients include Black & Veatch Corporation, RDG Planning & Design, HGM Associates Inc., McCarthy Building Companies and DVO, Inc. Her experience in commercial construction has included working on complex, multi-million dollar disputes involving several Iowa businesses, including the IPSCO steel plant, the Quad County Corn Processors ethanol facility, and the Iowa Events Center.
Personal Injury and Property Damage
For more than ten years, Debra has defended personal injury and property damage claims for national insurance companies, including Allied Insurance /Nationwide Agribusiness. As panel counsel for a global design professional liability insurer, she defends architects and engineers against professional negligence claims.
Trusts and Estates
For her trust and estate clients, Debra represents individuals and fiduciaries in the resolution of contested estates.
In addition, she maintains an ongoing advisory role for the general counsel of GROWMARK, Inc. and RELCO Locomotives, Inc., advising on general legal issues and serving as trial counsel for Iowa based litigated matters.
