CONCENTRATION
Chris is a senior shareholder in the Litigation Division. His general litigation practice includes, but is not limited to, work in the areas of Insurance Defense, Insurance Coverage, Insurance Bad Faith, Personal Injury, Product Liability, Business and Commercial Litigation, UCC Litigation and Real Property Litigation. He currently serves on the Firm’s Board of Directors.
SUMMARY
Chris possesses over 19 years of experience in state and federal trial and appellate courts. During this time, he has handled a wide range of litigation matters. His recent product liability experience includes participation in the defense of a major pharmaceutical manufacturer in statewide diet drug litigation.
Chris has tried jury and bench trials to judgment, and has successfully argued before the Iowa Supreme Court, the Iowa Court of Appeals and the Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. He has also resolved numerous lawsuits through settlement, motion practice, arbitration and mediation. His clients have included insurance companies, product manufacturers, financial institutions, real property management companies, finance companies and individuals.
REPRESENTATIVE ENGAGEMENTS
• Obtained a defense verdict in a lawsuit seeking the payment of underinsured motorist coverage benefits;
• Obtained a defense verdict in a wrongful death lawsuit;
• Obtained a defense verdict in a personal injury lawsuit;
• Obtained a judgment for a finance company on a claim arising from an alleged guarantee executed by a former employee of the company;
• Obtained a judgment for a manufacturer against a former tenant that removed electrical power distribution equipment from two leased commercial plants;
• Obtained a judgment for a building products manufacturer against a party that contracted for the purchase of a pre-fabricated building, and later breached the agreement; and
• Obtained injunctive relief, preventing the sale of closely held business and gaining the appointment of a receiver.
PUBLICATION, SPEECHES, AND sEMINARS
Chris has given presentations and speeches on numerous topics. Recent topics include residential and commercial landlord/tenant law, effective utilization of the court system and changes in the Iowa Rules of Professional Conduct for Lawyers.
PERSONAL
Chris and his wife, Jodi, have two daughters, Madeline and Claudia. He is involved in many of their activities, including coaching their basketball and softball teams. He is active in the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George, serving on the Parish Council and as legal counsel. His interests include golf and harness racing.
