CONCENTRATION
Emily is a shareholder in the Davis Brown Law Firm’s Intellectual Property Practice. Her practice concentrates on obtaining patent, trademark, and copyright protection for the firm’s clients and providing litigation support to the firm’s Intellectual Property litigators. She is a registered patent attorney, able to practice in front of the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Emily is also the program coordinator for Start-Up Launchpad, a premium full-service program of the Davis Brown Law Firm that includes flat-fee strategic advice and legal services for start-up businesses and entrepreneurs. The program is designed to provide entrepreneurs with solid legal, financial and strategic advice, so they are able to focus on business matters.
SUMMARY
Emily’s area of expertise lies in the biotechnology industry. Since joining the firm in 2003, she has worked to protect inventions in a wide variety of areas, including inventions in the biotechnology and biochemical industries, and mechanical inventions, including innovations in agricultural machinery and in the construction industry.

MEMBERSHIPS
Emily is a member of the Polk County and Iowa Bar Associations, and is currently serving as Treasurer of the Iowa Intellectual Property Law Association (IIPCA).
OF NOTE
Emily was employed in a research laboratory at Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. from 1993 to 1998, where her research focused on the molecular biology of oilseeds. In addition, Emily conducted research at Northwestern University Medical School in 1998 and 1999. At Northwestern, Emily worked in an immunology laboratory, where she studied leukocyte adhesion.
While in law school, Emily completed an externship in the chambers of the Honorable Robert W. Pratt, a federal judge in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa. Emily is also an author of the Model Act for Genetic Privacy and Control, published in the October 2002 edition of the Iowa Law Review.
