William A. Boatwright

Bill Boatwright is a senior shareholder of the Davis Brown Law Firm in the Business Division. He has a general practice in but not limited to the areas of Non-Profit Organizations, Estate Planning and Probate.

SUMMARY

Bill's non-profit organization practice includes assisting charitable and other organizations with their organization and qualification under state law, and in securing tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service. 

Bill represents a wide range of non-profit organizations, including university-related entities, trade associations, amateur athletic organizations, several prominent consumer credit counseling organizations, a large Voluntary Employees' Beneficiary Association and a number of private foundations organized for various
charitable purposes.

Bill's estate planning practice entails assisting individuals and families with the tax-efficient transfer of property upon death, as well as business succession planning for family-owned businesses where multiple generations are involved. 

With respect to his probate practice, Bill assists with the transfer of a decedent's assets and in wrapping up final affairs.  This practice involves representing the decedent's executor and other fiduciaries before the Probate Court, the Internal Revenue Service and the Iowa Department of Revenue and Finance.

His non-profit clients included the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, Lincoln Park Zoo and several large metropolitan hospitals. Bill spent one year teaching English in Kofu, Japan. In his spare time, Bill enjoys spending time with his friends and family, playing sports, collecting vintage comic books, and other memorabilia.
