Davis Brown Culture
More than Billable Hours - Rewarding Work/Life Balance
Davis Brown is committed to supporting a balanced life for attorneys and staff. The firm has chosen to develop a workplace that not only fosters professional success, but also supports individuals and families.
Davis Brown prides itself on a collegial atmosphere. The firm has been recognized as the Best Law Firm in Des Moines by Business Record readers and as one of Des Moines' Best Places to Work by employees and the Des Moines Business Record. The firm was also named a "Top Workplace in Iowa" by the Des Moines Register in 2011.
In addition to supporting a work/life balance, attorneys and support staff are invited to participate in a number of fun firm-sponsored events held at the office throughout the year including holiday gatherings, birthday celebrations, and tailgate parties, as well as a number of other social events.
Invested in the Community
A. Arthur Davis (1928-1997), a named partner of the firm, was mayor of Des Moines, President of the Des Moines School Board, President of what is now the Greater Des Moines Partnership, and helped establish the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute. Our attorneys and staff continue this commitment and are active in numerous organizations, programs and charitable causes with the goal of giving back to the community and making Iowa a better place to live.
Whether participating in the annual Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Central Iowa holiday greeting card contest, participating in United Way's Day of Action, sending care packages from Des Moines to U.S. troops in Afghanistan, building a Habitat for Humanity home, or organizing a food drive, the Davis Brown family pulls together in support of the local community.
In addition to donating time through firm and personal volunteering, each month Davis Brown hosts a charity jeans day where all employees can wear jeans with a minimum donation in support of that month's charity, along with a quarterly firm-wide potluck.
Since the program began, Davis Brown has donated thousands of dollars to organizations including the Ashley Oakland Foundation Star Playground, Best Buddies, Tytoo Gardens Orphanage of Haiti, Beacon of Life, Prevent Child Abuse Iowa, Care for Children Foundation, Youth Emergency Services & Shelter of Iowa, University of Iowa Dance Marathon, Hospice of Central Iowa, Iowa Coalition against Domestic Violence, among others. All employees are invited to nominate a charity they care about to be the recipient of donations.
