Iowa Immigration Law Blog: H-4 Visa Holders May Soon Be Authorized To Work in the U.S. - April 9, 2014

On April 7, 2014, the White House made an exciting announcement about a proposal to grant employment authorization to spouses of H-1B workers. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been working on amending its regulations to improve the U.S. policy concerning foreign entrepreneurs and make the visa process more efficient. The DHS will soon publish several proposed regulations, including rules allowing H-4 dependent spouses of certain H-1B visa holders to work in the U.S. as well as enhancing opportunities for professors and researchers.

This change in policy would benefit the U.S. in its aim to attract the world’s best and brightest talent, who substantially contribute to the U.S. economy growth, create jobs, and enhance the American innovative progress.  The promising news would certainly make the U.S. a more attractive place for foreign business entrepreneurs and high-skilled workers. Stay tuned for more developments!
