Michael J. Kaufmann
Mike is a litigator with an active practice in business, commercial, and construction litigation as well as insurance defense and employment law. His experience also includes insurance coverage disputes.
Mike has experience counseling construction and design firms and assisting with matters relating to construction defect and mechanic’s lien litigation.
He is admitted to practice before the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Northern and Southern District of Iowa courts.

Mike is a member of the Board of Directors of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Cedar Rapids & East Central Iowa. He is involved with Master Builders of Iowa, the Iowa Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and the Des Moines Downtown Chamber of Commerce.
Mike graduated with distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2017. He was managing editor of the Iowa Law Review, president of Phi Alpha Delta, and competed nationally as a member of the college’s Jessup International Moot Court Team.
Mike studied economics and political science at Iowa State University, graduating cum laude in 2014 with Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees.
Following his law school graduation, Mike worked as a judicial law clerk for United States Magistrate Judge Celeste F. Bremer of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa. As a law clerk, Mike worked closely with federal judges to prepare orders resolving dispositive motions and handling pretrial matters in a broad range of cases.
Prior to joining Davis Brown in 2020, Michael was an associate attorney at a firm in Cedar Rapids.
