For more than 80 years, Davis Brown has offered both business and personal tax and transaction services, representing our clients with respect to strategic tax and business planning, legislative relations and litigation matters.

The Tax/Transactions department is one of the largest departments within Davis Brown, which allows our firm to offer a complete array of tax services. The attorney members' individual biographies can be accessed by clicking on the links on the right side of this page.  Among our department members, we have the expertise and depth to assist our clients with virtually any type of tax or business transaction, no matter how large or small it may be.

Members of our department provide comprehensive legal services to our clients ranging from private individuals to Fortune 500 corporations.  We regularly represent and advise individual clients with respect to personal income tax, estate and gift tax, and state and local tax matters.  In addition to tax planning services, we also represent clients with tax litigation and other tax-related controversies.  We routinely represent individual shareholders, partners and other equity interest holders in their dealings with each other and with the companies in which they have an equity stake. We offer real estate conveyance and planning services as well, including Internal Revenue Code Section 1031 like-kind exchange transactions.  As the world has grown smaller and investment in Iowa has increased over the years, the firm has adapted by developing expertise in international tax matters, including individual inpatriate and expatriate taxation, Subpart F taxation, and transfer pricing issues.  In short, our attorneys are capable of analyzing and addressing personal and business taxation issues of nearly every variety.

Our department also offers tax and business planning services to a variety of corporate clients as well, including corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, and non-profit/tax-exempt organizations.  Besides offering organizational and start-up services, we also offer our corporate clients a variety of services related to their ongoing, operational needs, such as shareholder relations, corporate income tax planning and controversy services, asset and stock purchase/sale transactions, public and private bond and other financing services, employee retirement plan matters and tax credit financing.  The firm also maintains an extensive mergers and acquisitions practice.

In addition to providing services through direct representation, we hope that our website will serve as a useful tool for updates on current tax and business issues. Our department members regularly post articles and other pieces about newsworthy items, and address new tax and business strategies designed to offer our clients the highest level of service available.  If we can answer any questions or assist you in any manner, please contact any member of the department.
