Margaret Van Houten to Present at ALI CLE Program on Private Wealth Planning - August 12, 2013

Davis Brown attorney Margaret Van Houten will present at the American Law Institute Continuing Legal Education (ALI CLE) program "Private Wealth Planning in the 21st Century" on December 3 in Philadelphia, PA. Margaret will present “Assets to Assets, Dust to Dust: What to do with a Decedent’s Digital Identity?” Her session will discuss planning for the disposition of a person’s ‘digital assets’ at death and access to those types of assets (electronic bank accounts, social media accounts, software, and cloud based information and software) by an agent during life and the issues involved in these matters. She'll also present on the federal secrecy laws which often prevent an agent from accessing those types of assets.

The program will cover topics ranging from planning techniques for same-sex couples and how to handle a decedent’s digital identity to the impact of Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 on a practice and private planning in a multi-cultural world. More information on the course and registration details can be found here.
