On Monday, October 4, 2013, the Iowa Nurses Association (INA) will present Jodie Clark McDougal with the 2013 Friend of Nursing Award at the association’s annual convention in Coralville, Iowa.
Each year, the award is presented to one non-nurse individual or group/organization who has significantly contributed to the improvement of the Iowa nursing profession and the INA. Jodie was selected for the award in recognition of her work as co-counsel, along with Davis Brown attorney Lynn Boes, for the INA in the landmark Iowa Supreme Court decision, Iowa Medical Society, et. al., v. Iowa Board of Nursing, et. al, in which the Iowa Supreme Court held that the Iowa Board of Nursing, and not any medical organization or association, has the authority to define the scope of nursing practice in the State of Iowa. With this decision, the Supreme Court upheld the Iowa Administrative Code regulations relating to the utilization of fluoroscopy initially adopted by the Iowa Board of Nursing and Iowa Department of Public Department, thereby allowing advanced nurse practitioners and certified registered nurse anesthetists around the state to continue their practices utilizing fluoroscopy.
Jodie is a shareholder attorney at the Davis Brown Law Firm.
