On Tuesday, July 18, employment law attorneys Michele Brott and Maggie Hanson presented at the annual Iowa Community Action Association (ICAA) Training Conference in Des Moines.
The conference is a gathering of non-profit professionals working in community action agencies across the state who provide services and advocate for low-income Iowans. The workshops at the conference offer information on utilizing program assessments, connections to other agencies and support, and conflict resolution among others.
Michele and Maggie’s presentation, “Under Pressure? HR Solutions to Hiring, Firing, & Discipline,” offered attendees information on best practices when hiring, disciplining, and terminating employees.
“Employers who attended the conference raised a variety of great questions inquiring about interviewing and asking pre-employment disability related questions, as well as retrieving devices containing company-sensitive data after a termination,” said Hanson.
“Managers and HR professionals are under the strain of both federal and state law when making personnel decisions. We know they want to make the right decisions and we are happy to spend the time working through real-life examples to guide those decisions,” said Brott.
