The Iowa Ideas Conference took place September 20-22 in Cedar Rapids and featured 80 discussions in eight different thematic tracks, ranging from K-12 Education to Transportation. More than 650 people attended the conference to discuss the future of Iowa and look for solutions.
Davis Brown Immigration Department Chair Lori Chesser spoke on a panel, “Immigrants in the Workforce” on Friday alongside Peter Fisher of the Iowa Policy Project, Nancy Mwirotsi of Pi515, and Liesl Eathington of the Department of Economics at Iowa State University. The panel looked at Iowa’s shrinking workforce issue and how immigrants could be part of the solution.
In an article about the event, the Cedar Rapids Gazette quoted Lori, “Maybe we don’t have to focus on retention as much as letting people come who want to be here.”
