Jo Ellen Whitney Honored by National Sheriffs' Association at U.S. Supreme Court - March 9, 2018

Jo Ellen Whitney, chair of the Employment and Labor Law department, was honored Monday by the National Sheriffs’ Association at a swearing in before the Justices of the United States Supreme Court. Justices Gorsuch and Bader Ginsberg as well as Chief Justice Roberts spoke to the honorees and their families at a reception following the ceremony. The honorees also participated in a docent tour of the courtroom.

The National Sheriffs’ Association is one of a select number of organizations to sponsor a group of attorneys to become new members of the United States Supreme Court Bar. Thirty-one attorneys were nominated by local sheriffs for the honor, including Davis Brown Law’s Jo Ellen Whitney. Jo Ellen was nominated by Sheriff Paul Fitzgerald of Story County. In her health law practice, Jo Ellen often works with county sheriffs when she is called to advise hospitals with crises in the emergency room, drug diversion issues, and dealing with patient and provider issues stemming from the opioid crisis.

Jo Ellen’s son, twelve-year-old Cameron, joined her on the trip to Washington D.C. to witness the honor and participate in the reception.
