The Iowa-Central American Relief Effort (icare) held their 12th Annual Eat-A-Thon on Monday, April 23 at Jethro’s BBQ in Des Moines. The annual event features teams of attorneys and law students eating as many chicken wings as they can. Teams take pledges for each wing consumed raising money for their chosen charities.
Davis Brown attorney Luke Draisey paired up with Drake Law Student Adam Kiel to participate as the X-Wing Biters this year. Luke and Adam raised over $2,000 for Courage League Sports at the event by eating 90 wings, earning them a 3rd place finish on the “Wings Eaten” scoreboard!
Luke chose to donate to Courage League Sports after talking with his colleague Krystle Campa about the work the organization does. “As a Drake Law Student, I attended the Eat-A-Thon and saw what a great opportunity it was to raise money for non-profits in our community in a fun competitive event. I jumped at the chance to participate as an attorney. Courage League Sports is a great organization providing opportunities for youth with disabilities to participate in sports. I’ve benefited from the structure and organization of sports in my life and I love that through Courage League Sports, kids of all abilities have the opportunity to benefit as well.”
In total, over $36,000 was raised for 12 different charities with the teams consuming a total 896 chicken wings!
