Tim Coonan, government relations attorney, recently led the Greater Des Moines Partnership’s annual advocacy trip to Washington D.C. as Chair of the Government Policy Council. Tim led the preparation of the Partnership’s federal policy agenda and coordinated the trip’s meetings with Iowa’s federal delegation. Tim also served as master of ceremonies for the Iowa Congressional Delegation breakfast sponsored by Principal Financial Group© which is one of the highlights of the trip for the nearly 200 business and civic leaders in attendance.
Lori Chesser, chair of Davis Brown’s Immigration department, also participated in the event, leading the breakout session on federal immigration policy. One plank of the Partnership’s Talent Development strategy is immigration and the vital role of immigrants in Iowa’s workforce. Lori discussed how federal immigration policy impacts Iowa’s economy with Jeremy Robbins, Executive Director of New American Economy.
The 39th annual trip featured briefings with White House staff and small group meetings with Iowa’s congressmen and women and their staffs to advocate for Iowa’s priorities as well as some fun networking events and educational tours.
