Law student Mucia Flores joined the Davis Brown Law Firm six weeks ago as a Summer Associate and participant in the Drake University Law Opportunity Leadership Program.
Mucia is splitting her summer between Davis Brown and the Principal Financial Group® learning about the practice of law in a firm and in-house.
While at Davis Brown, Mucia worked on employment, non-profit, health law, and litigation matters with shareholders. She researched complicated aspects of cases, and drafted memos, motions, and discovery responses for the attorneys, gaining insight into the variety of work in a law firm.
When asked about the most interesting aspect of her time at the firm, she said, “I have always been interested in international legal work, and this summer I was able to work with Susan Freed on a health law case, investigating the differences in laws and regulations in the U.S. and the British Virgin Islands.”
Mucia moved to a position at the Principal Financial Group® on July 9 where she will experience the variety of legal opportunities in a corporate environment.
Mucia is part of the first cohort of the Drake University Law Opportunity Leadership Program. In the program, first year law students from underrepresented groups participate in networking events with law firms and corporate law teams and leadership development programming in addition to their summer internships.
Jerry Anderson, Dean of Drake Law shares, “The program offers unique opportunities for diverse students to build their leadership skills, form connections with local employers, and gain practical experience.”
