Lynn Boes Receives Iowa Nurses Association Hall of Fame Award - October 25, 2018

On Friday, October 19, attorney Lynn Boes was recognized by the Iowa Nurses Association with the Hall of Fame Award. Her colleagues, attorneys Craig Sieverding and Jo Ellen Whitney, and assistant Lisa Layton attended the ceremony along with her husband, Jim, and son Nathan.

Lynn was recognized for her advocacy on behalf of nurses and the nursing industry over her career as a nurse, a health care administrator, and an attorney.

As an attorney, Lynn has advised nurses and advanced practice nurses, among other health care professionals, with professional licensing in investigations, administrative appeals, and disciplinary actions. Lynn takes significant joy from helping care providers defend themselves when facing investigatory bodies that do not fully understand the health care system.

Her advocacy work also extends beyond individuals. In 2013, along with her Davis Brown colleagues, Lynn handled a litigation matter on behalf of the Iowa Nurses Association. The case involved the use of a new technology by advance practice nurses. The Iowa Nurses Association, among others, faced the Iowa Medical Society in the decision of who could decide nurses’ scope of practice. The Iowa Supreme Court agreed with Lynn, the Iowa Nursing Board decides the scope of practice and it is within their rights to decide what technologies can be used. This was a huge win for nurses, advancing the practice in Iowa, and for patients in rural Iowa, who benefited from the clarity that the Iowa Supreme court provided.

Lynn continues her active practice as an attorney working on behalf of health care professionals as well as long-term care facilities.
