Tim Coonan was recognized on December 14 for his service as chair of the Greater Des Moines Partnership Government Policy Council.
Over the last year, Tim led the committee as they worked with the Des Moines community to prepare the Partnership’s legislative goals and to execute on those goals. Tim’s work included collaborating with the private and public sectors to understand their priorities and guide the partnership in crafting the annual legislative agenda.
After the annual priorities were set, Tim and the council discussed the priorities and movement on them through meetings with local government officials as well as members of Congress and their staffers. Accomplishments under Tim’s leadership includes streamlining the local option sales tax voting procedures. The council also pushed forward the necessity of an airport expansion at the federal level and made progress with members of Congress on that front.
“The Greater Des Moines Partnership is the best example of a public-private partnership. Working with the business community, our non-profit sector, and public entities, we can determine the best path forward to grow our community and accomplish our goals together,” Tim shared, “It has been an honor to serve as chair of the council and I’m looking forward to seeing the leadership Stacey Pellett of John Deere will bring in 2019. She has been a great vice-chair this year and I know she’ll work hard to continue moving the Greater Des Moines area forward.”
