The Iowa Employment Conference is an annual conference bringing together human resources and business professionals from across the state for two days of learning and growth opportunities. Three Davis Brown attorneys presented at the conference.
Employment and litigation attorney Michele Brott presented “Disabilities in the Workplace” discussing disability law compliance along with niche and topical issues in disability law including workers’ compensation injuries implicating disability laws, obesity, alcoholism, emotional support animals, and odor.
Immigration attorney Lori Chesser presented, “I-9s in the Age of Increased Enforcement: Walking the Tightrope.” The focus of Lori’s presentation was on I-9 compliance and balancing directives from ICE and the DOJ as well as other federal regulations.
Employment and litigation attorney Kelsey Crosse presented “Understanding Psychological Issues in the Workplace: A Practical Approach to Navigating Mental Health at Work.” As a member of the 2018-2019 Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute class, Kelsey has been working with the National Alliance on Mental Illness for the last few months and her attention has been drawn to how employers can and should accommodate mental illness in the workplace. Her presentation was designed to help employers navigate the legal and practical issues that can arise regarding mental illness, including best practices, compliance with ADA and FMLA, and how to foster a work environment that supports mental wellbeing to retain and attract talent.
In addition to these three presenting attorneys, a number of other Davis Brown attorneys were at the conference talking with attendees about the various employment law issues they face at their worksites.
