Corrin Hatala, business attorney, participated in the Eat Greater Des Moines Relay Team smashing down the Adam Emmenecker Sandwich at the annual icare Eat-A-Thon event.
Corrin, a member of the Eat Greater Des Moines (EGDM) Board of Directors, teamed up with Aubrey Alvarez, EGDM Executive Director, Adam Emmenecker, a “local celebrity,” and JB Conlin, a constituent partner of EGDM, to take on the challenge. The team came out on top in both categories of the total money raised and the amount of sandwich consumed - they had to request extra food because they finished the sandwich before the time was up!
About the event, Corrin said, “It’s such a unique opportunity to raise money and awareness for a program that impacts so many people in the greater Des Moines area. I love that with Eat Greater Des Moines, businesses can donate extra food, diverting food waste from landfills and serving people in need in our community.”
The group raised over $24,000 for EGDM’s food rescue transportation program which provides meals to individuals and families facing food insecurity. Highly entertaining, the event is a fundraiser for the participating non-profits disguised as an eating competition. In all, over $67,000 was raised for 10 local non-profit organizations at the event.
