TAI’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee kicked off their inaugural year with a lunch and learn at NewBoCo in Cedar Rapids on Friday, June 28. The event, featuring a panel and moderator of diverse backgrounds, brought together 30+ technology leaders from the Corridor focused on improving D&I efforts in their companies.
Moderator Shea Daniels, Lead Software Engineer at Dwolla, led the panelists on a discussion about how internal policies can foster a more inclusive environment. Panelists Sharina Sallis, Community Relationship Manager at CUNA Mutual Group, Jessi Stoll, Directorate Learning & Development Focal at Collins Aerospace, and Ben Dillon, Co-Owner and Chief Strategy Officer at Geonetric discussed intersectionality, calling in vs. calling out, and intentionality.
The Cedar Rapids Gazette covered the event.
Daniela Talmadge, litigation and immigration attorney, is serving as the co-chair of the Technology Association of Iowa’s Diversity & Inclusion committee. In their initial meetings this year, Daniela and co-chair Terri Jensen, decided the focus in the committee’s first year will be strategic planning, involvement in the Iowa Tech Summit, and offering lunch and learns across the state focused on how companies can be intentional about their diversity and inclusion efforts.
Daniela led the sub-committee’s work over the last few months planning this first lunch and learn. She assisted and facilitated identifying the theme and panelists, securing space, and promoting the event to great success. They are in the process of planning the next event.
