Breanna Young, attorney in the Wills, Trusts, and Probate department, presented a session for the Iowa State Bar Association “People’s Law School” series. The free public event, which was broadcast to local communities throughout the state, focused on the basics of guardianships and conservatorships in the state of Iowa.
Breanna was joined by Jennifer Donovan of the Iowa Department of Aging, which aims to improve the quality of life and care of older Iowans. Breanna and Jennifer discussed the types of guardianships and conservatorships as well as the differences between them, how they are created, their powers, and the reporting requirements for each.
The session was designed to give laypeople the knowledge needed to decide if a guardianship or conservatorship is a good option for someone in their life in need of extra support.
