Michele Brott, shareholder employment law attorney, presented “Time is Money,” a question-and-answer format presentation about federal wage and hour law to the City Clerk’s Meeting of the Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission (UERPC).
UERPC is a council of governments delivering a range of services to communities in Northeast Iowa (Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette, Howard, Winneshiek, and Chickasaw counties). UERPC hosts quarterly Clerk’s Association Meetings to facilitate guest speakers as well as knowledge exchange between city clerks.
Michele’s presentation offered attendees an overview of recent updates to the Fair Labor Standards Act before jumping into real-life workplace questions on topics including travel time, on-call time, and training workshops, among others. She also walked through a few common questions of independent contractor status and exempt vs. non-exempt.
