Katelynn McCollough Presents on Medical Marijuana at Iowa-Illinois Safety Council Conference - January 8, 2020

The Iowa-Illinois Safety Council hosted the “It’s Complicated: Substance Abuse & Marijuana in the Workplace” conference last fall at DuPont Pioneer in Johnston. The IISC invited speakers to present current information on the changing laws, policy, and real-life outcomes relevant to the audience of employer front line supervisors, EHS professionals, and human resource partners.

Litigation attorney Katelynn McCollough presented “Medical Marijuana in the Workplace” covering the differences between marijuana and medical cannabidiol (CBD), the current laws in both Iowa and at the federal level, the process for getting approval for CBD in Iowa, drug testing policies and how they relate to disability discrimination issues, and expected changes in the legal landscape.

In addition to Katelynn’s presentation, attendees heard from Dale Woolery, Director of the Governor’s Office of Drug Control Policy, Peter Komendowski, Executive Director of the Partnership for a Healthy Iowa, Nicole Crain, SVP of Public Policy at the Iowa Association of Business & Industry, and the personal story of state patrol officer Mike Haugen whose life was impacted by drug addiction.
