Lori Chesser Featured on Fordham University Humans Rights Panel - May 22, 2020

On Friday, May 8, Fordham University’s Institute on Religion, Law & Lawyer’s Work hosted “COVID-19 Crisis: A Dialogue on Human Rights,” featuring attorneys and professors from around the world to discuss a range of pandemic-related human rights challenges. The dialogue featured speakers:

Endy Moraes, Director of the Institute, moderated the discussion.

Each panelist focused on an aspect of human rights and the pandemic. Simone discussed the effect of the pandemic on the climate crisis and Raphael focused on health rights and challenges across the African continent. Lori presented “COVID-19 and Immigration in the US: Rights, the Rule of Law and Reality,” reviewing the Trump administration’s immigration actions in response to the pandemic, the impact of COVID-19 on the immigrant population in the United States, including many of the front line doctors and nurses, and the role of non-immigrants in advocating for the human rights of all people in the United States.

The Institute on Religion, Law & Lawyer's Work aims to help practicing lawyers and law students in their efforts to live integrated lives of faith in the context of the challenges of legal practice, and to promote dialogue on issues related to religion and law. It sponsors national and local interfaith conferences, lectures, and programs on religion, spirituality, and legal practice.
