HR Quick Takes: OSHA Injuries - December 18, 2019

Q: If my employee comes to work sick and passes out due to the flu, is that OSHA?

A: In addition to covering fatalities, hospitalizations, and injuries requiring more than first aid, OSHA does require that you record loss of consciousness. The next assessment: did the work environment “cause or contribute” to the event or significantly “aggravate a pre-existing injury or illness.” Does the issue “solely” result from non-work activity or conduct? If work is involved, then it should be recorded.
