In February, immigration lawyer Elizabeth Van Arkel participated as a panelist in “H-1B & H4 Visas: Domestic Violence in Asian Populations,” a webinar for Monsoon with attorney Brynne Howard and Lata D’Mello of Monsoon.
The webinar discussed gender-based violence in Asian and Pacific Islander communities in Iowa, breaking down the various threats and pressures the population faces such as human trafficking and domestic violence.
Liz presented U.S. immigration law and explained how domestic violence and resulting criminal charges impact H-1B and H4 visas holders.
Monsoon Asians and Pacific Islanders in Solidarity serves victims/survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and gender-related homicide in Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities in all 99 counties in Iowa.
